Hello All

Post by ablib »

I had a birthday recently. I remembered that I used to get annual "Happy Birthday" emails from BitbenderForums, and wondered why I didn't get one this year. I searched, and realized the last one I got was in 2023. So, I started feeling nostalgic, did some sleuthing, realized BitbenderForums appears to be no more, and then remembered Grogan has this this little quiet neck of the woods as a place to call home.

That's it, really. Hey Grogan, old friend. I miss the banter sometimes. It's brought a smile to my face reading some of these threads.

Hey, ablib, it's great to see you. I'm glad you found us.

Yeah, bitbenderforums is no more. It was down a lot, and left that way for months, so Zema and I moved our asses here.

Anyway, feel free to sound off about anything you like, here. Very generous attachment sizes etc. too. We do what we want here.

I hope you stay with us and participate.

Oh, and... Happy Birthday :-)

Hi ablib, it's nice to see a familiar name I haven't seen in years :)

I don't get out much either. My first two camping trips this year were canceled due to the campground being underwater... Then my diesel truck broke down to the tune of ~$5500. I loved being a forum rat, but time is limited now. Imagine being retired and having time issues. :) That's what grandkids and great grandkids will do to you - but I love it. I seem to be the de facto mechanic for my family. I am slowly backing away from that. Getting up and down ain't easy anymore.

But that's all the complaints I have. I've been lucky (I really think blessed) with decent health and a wife of 49 years. I just tell my son-in-laws and grandkids to use YouTube and whatever they need in the garage. All I ever had were Chilton manuals at the parts store.

It's getting a lot harder to work on cars yourself nowadays too. Dismantle half the thing to replace a one-piece, plastic molded part that itself costs $500 etc.

I had a Chilton manual for my 1984 Mercury Topaz and I could fix just about anything on it. Lots of parts available at the wreckers (mostly the same as the Ford Tempo) and we had a good guy that would let you take anything you want for cheap or even free, as long as you went out to the yard and took it off a vehicle yourself. If you brought him a case of beer that would go a long way too. For example he let me have car seats for free, as long as I set the old ones back in the vehicle for salvage weight.
