Scored A Win At Work This Week

Post by Zema Bus »

In the field I'm in there is always someone gunning for us, besides multiple auditors there are people from the quality assurance dept, the billing dept, physicians, the medical director, and insurance companies. This past week someone from the quality assurance dept wanted me to see if there was a better code for something on an account I had completed. I re-reviewed it and explained to her why it could not be changed, but she didn't let it go and set off to look for a better code on her own, and I just thought "good luck with that". The next day this second person from the quality assurance dept shows up in the email thread - this one is always bad news, she has a reputation of not liking coders and always looking for an opportunity to bad mouth them. Her last name just happens to be the same as a character in Star Trek DS9 who made the doctor's life miserable whenever he showed up. Anyway, she quotes me some general guidelines in an attempt to support their argument. But they didn't understand the nuances as there are zillions of exceptions as there was in this particular case. The general guidelines only apply when nothing else overrides them. I responded with my quote of the guidelines specific to the scenario illustrating why it had to coded the way it was, and that changing it to what they wanted would be in violation of the guidelines. The first person who has always been nice about it at least, acknowledged that I was correct, but the other one...crickets lol! It was another huge waste of valuable time though.

Some people just can't be wrong. Sucks that you had to waste time entertaining her ego, though.
