Ok, I'm starting to think I want to step away from Firefox but am unsure about going back to Chromium as I use the account sync feature to manage links between my desktop and phone browsers. Chromium disabled that some time ago and only retained it on Chrome which is why I went back to Firefox in the first place. What are others using? I like the browser account sync, but also fuck google. I know that Firefox is heavily linked to Google anyway though.

I detest Chrome based browsers, so I don't use one anywhere. Firefox here, it's the only sane browser that supports the kinds of extensions I am accustomed to. The only other viable browsers are Chrome based now. Vivaldi does a good job at trying to bring back good things, but still they are limited by the code base. No, you really can't customize it (the Chromium back end itself) alot yourself, or you'll be forever trying to figure out how to implement your changes at Google's whims, and you can't afford to work with a stagnant copy with software like a web browser (probably the most exposed piece of software on a computer).

Firefox is getting a lot of posturing bad publicity lately, I've noticed. It started with that change in wording of the "we will not sell your data" clause. Now they only promise to preserve your privacy (I don't care about those semantics). Everybody treats useage stats as a commodity these days, especially Google and Facebook and their ilk.

Same with me, I only use Firefox for the most part. I do have Vivaldi on one machine and I have Chromium for occasional testing but Firefox is what I use for my day to day browsing. There is a new independent browser in development (Ladybird) but they probably won't have a release before 2028.
