Ublock Origin was blocking data feed on github webui

Post by Grogan »

I'm always checking some project or another for new commits, so I noticed this pretty quickly, it was fine a few hours prior to this. Before I went to bed this morning, github pages were loading, showing directory structure for projects, but no data feeds. Greyed out lines where data should be, including comments in bug reports ("Issues"). I thought, hmm, this is rare for anything on github to malfunction, I can't even remember the last time it's been down in any way.

When I got up though, it was still like that. No way. Then I noticed that Ublock Origin was blocking 41 elements on github. There's nothing like that there, maybe a few tracking links that it blocks. I disabled it for github and the data feeds were back. I then went to Ublock Origin's github Issues and nothing was reported. So it had to be filter related.

I first clicked Update Now on the Filter Lists tab, but that didn't cut it, anything that's been updated recently isn't forced. I don't know which filter list it was, but I clicked on each of them to force an update and that fixed it. Now the github web interface works correctly again.

The lesson is, manually update all filters if UBo is causing unexpected problems.

Something I'll keep in mind. I just checked mine, first I tried the Update Now, then I tried some in the list and some of them had updates despite having clicked the global Update Now button.

Normally I just forget about it and let it update itself, it usually isn't something I have to think about at all.
