4 TB NVME

Post by Zema Bus »

I picked up a 4 TB NVME to replace the 2 TB NVME in my game machine. I've wanted to do that for quite a while. I heard that the full impact of the tariffs on electronics will occur in July so this seemed like a good time. It's a Lexar 7400 MB/s read speed.

I might have to consider that. I'm now regretting removing those games. Assassin's Creed Valhalla (really wanted to ditch that Ubisoft client anyway), Horizon Forbidden West (great story and graphics, but more frustrating than the original and I'm probably never going to finish it), The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered (that's poo, but I was going to try to play it some more. It pretty much guarantees I'll never get back to those games if I have to download them again.

A 4 Tb drive would be enough to keep all my games installed.

I uninstalled a bunch of games I didn't anticipate playing anytime soon and then moved the rest to a regular sata SSD via Steam's storage utility. Now I just have to swap it in, mount it, edit fstab, configure it in Steam and move my games over.

Try to have patience so you can see Indiana Jones. The game play is kind of stupid. You'll also find some of the waypoints stupid. For example at the Vatican, your waypoint might point back to where you already were, because you took another route or something. You COULD go back there and follow the waypoint from there, but it's often not what you want to do. I also had a situation in a tomb where I had two waypoints. One was pointing back where I came (that would have been the better choice for egress) and another pointing forward. So I took the new route, and ended up having to deplete all my ammo and break my weapons fighting nazis at the exit.

About the only thing that's great about it is Indiana Jones himself, he's in fine character. I loved some of the things he said. I also enjoyed exploring old catacombs and tombs etc. As I said in the game thread (months ago), the prologue is a fabulous re-enactment of the opening scenes of Raiders of the Lost Ark, with that tomb with the rolling ball trap and weighted skull idol. It's almost worth it for that alone.

As for copying games, "cp -a" (or mv of course, but copying first is safer) is all you need to do, rather than go through Steam to move them and move them back again. If they are all under steam, you can just move the whole steam directory. Mine has been used in different distros, and moved to this computer. You can move a self contained Steam directory anywhere, all you have to do is change the symlinks in ~/.steam
