HP Laptop Updates BIOS

Post by Zema Bus »

Whenever I see there are pending updates on my work Windows 10 laptop I schedule it for Friday night so it doesn't cause a work disruption, plus installing Windows updates as soon as they're pushed out isn't a good idea anyway. This time it was a BIOS and firmware update that Windows had downloaded. It took a while for it to complete the firmware update, and it had multiple parts. I didn't see them all, I left the room and came back just in time to see it finishing up. At least it used the BIOS update utility for the actual updating rather than doing it within Windows.

Looks good. I don't think I would trust Windows to do that.

It will be the vendor's bios update program at the back end, but still... I agree that Windows shouldn't be doing things like that. Who is to say you even WANT that BIOS update? They disguise them as driver updates and they come down the pipe automatically.

I don't like updating BIOS through a Windows program in the first place.

Yeah I hate it being out of my hands, if the flash failed it could put me out of work for several days, and not to mention all the data I'd lose if they sent me a replacement. I miss using my own machine for work.
