This is a Linux youtuber I often watch. He's setting up a laptop for a friend.

Re: Case Pictures
It's pretty much done. I have case fans connected to a magnetic RGB hub behind the back side panel that allows changing the colors via a little wireless controller. side.jpg I put the HD activity light in the upper front corner. With the dust filter and front cover in place it's dimmed but still vis...

Re: Case Pictures
On my Gigabyte board there are two CPU fan headers, since they know lots of people are using tower coolers with two fans. When I was initially testing the board outside the case I only had one fan on the tower, and noticed the fan was turning off after booting. So I hooked up the 2nd fan and checked...

Re: Cyberpunk 2077
Ridiculous to put a cool down on something as basic as a health pack, especially when it's done retroactively. I bet they did it in response to those players who are always complaining about every game that "it's too easy!".

Re: Case Pictures
I think this case was the most challenging to build in, in all of my 23 years of doing this. It took a while but I finally got past all the obstacles with hidden screws etc. I still have more work to do but it's up and running. This is the cleanest build I've ever done. My mech drive sounds louder b...

Re: Case Pictures
The side panels are interchangeable with both sides, so I could put the other side panel on in place of the glass panel until the replacement arrives if I wanted to.

Re: Case Pictures
Since I have one of these cases and after seeing a lot of reports about how easily the glass panel shatters when I looked up how to safely remove the panel, I ordered a solid replacement panel from Corsair . Maybe if enough people order the solid panel it'll send a message :) This one may also sligh...

Windows 95 Release Day
I remember before I had a computer capable of running Windows 95 reading all about it in a computer magazine and how great it would be for DOS games with the way it could boot into "DOS mode" with customized Autoexec.bat and config.sys. Windows95_release_day.jpg Somehow I don't think MS co...

Re: Case Pictures
I've noticed big price changes after buying something on Amazon. They use algorithms that automatically adjust the price of items based on demand. It doesn't hurt having plenty of overhead aside from the extra cost. I have some watt meters I use to measure power consumption, when gaming or compiling...

Re: Case Pictures
Well... shit. Know what I did? Let's throw more money at the problem. I know the feeling, been there far too many times. I ordered a set of those extensions, because of something else I did in response to not having another case with the airflow these newer processors need, at least none housing ma...

Re: Need a different case
The standoffs should ground the motherboard from the case, and the power supply should be grounded to the wall socket. I wonder if it could be the power supply. I have experienced static shocks when touching a computer but it never had any impact on it that I can recall.

Re: Need a different case
Yeah I've heard lots of horror stories from people trying to do an RMA with those companies. I got lucky when my Radeon 7 card died, XFX refunded the full price I paid. This was during the video card shortage so that may be why they didn't send me a replacement card.

I enjoy watching his videos, I think it's been 2 years since I first discovered his channel. He lives near my older sister and brother-in-law, and they frequent the same MicroCenter store that he often goes to. They watch his videos too, I'm waiting for the day when they tell me they met him there l...

Re: UEFI On This Motherboard
Yeah I'm going to reuse the DDR4 that's currently on the MSI board (64 GB), and then the MSI board will get the memory from the board that it will replace. I considered going DDR5 (there's a DDR5 variant of this Gigabyte board) until I saw the price of 64 GB of DDR5 lol!

Looks good, hopefully it gets better down the road. On my Ryzen machine it doesn't register the CPU temp (stays at 0 C) but it works on my Intel machine. I haven't played around with it yet.

Re: UEFI On This Motherboard
Well I made an executive decision. I've been planning for a long time to redo the machine I use while working for all my look ups and reference material, my personal email and other stuff I need to keep track of. I'm going to repurpose this MSI board for that, along with the rest of the machine, min...

Re: Need a different case
Yeah you have to hold it in while pulling out on the card. About 10 years ago I ended up breaking off the latch on a motherboard while trying to get a card out. It didn't otherwise do any damage and the slot remained functional.

Re: Need a different case
I've seen those video cards mounted that way, just so that the fan side of the card faces out when viewed through a windowed side panel. That always looks weird to me, and seems like it would be hard to work around when trying to get your hand in there to access sata ports etc. I think they use rise...

Re: UEFI On This Motherboard
I retried it this morning without the old Samsung drive and now I have screens on cold boots! So it was the Samsung drive all along. I put the two drives back in and I'm back up. Yeah when it wasn't bootlooping on a warm boot I could boot into Slackware on that drive and it worked perfectly fine. We...

Re: UEFI On This Motherboard
One thing that occurred to me, that Samsung drive was common to both my Intel system and my Ryzen system before that. My Ryzen system never bootlooped but it did have no display on cold boots. Seems like a bit of a stretch but something to explore.

Re: UEFI On This Motherboard
Well this isn't going well. I thought I'd go ahead and try flashing the bios, but guess what? Since it basically does a cold boot before going into bios flash mode I have no screen (because of the weird no screen output on cold boots until reaching an OS login manager issue). So there is no way for ...
