Another lovely day here in AntfuckingArctica. We've been getting hammered with snow and winds for weeks, the worst winter I can remember in a long time. Luckily the wind whips around the house and keeps the drifts away from most areas. On the other side of the house, in the driveway/parking lot area, my car is completely buried in a drift just like these. You can barely even tell that there's a car there (by tomorrow you wouldn't). I haven't gone anywhere since Thursday, and now I'm buggered.

Mom took these pictures, she didn't think to get part of the window sill for perspective, but these pictures are taken just above it. In the first picture on the left side of the house, you can see discolouration where the snow is against the window.

That's a lot! How many feet is that?

I don't know, and it's higher now than when she took those this morning. I'd say that's a 6 foot high wall of snow across the whole back yard (lake side). The snow banks in the driveway (from blowing) are so high that Dad is going to have to get someone with a front end loader to move them back. There's just nowhere to put the snow anymore.

I'm dreading getting my car out of that drift. I feel like just leaving it until that snow melts (e.g. in the next few weeks we'll start getting above freezing weather) but I can't do that.

Like living in an freezer without a defroster

I finally got my car out today, it took 3 hours. I had to shovel a path to even get at it, starting from the top of the drift. It was all wind packed snow that had to come off in slabs and I had to carry a lot of it with the shovel because there's nowhere to put it. The right hand side of the car is right beside the woods, with a slope, so that was difficult to get at. I had to just free the wheels and leave that side covered with snow (big, snow covered, drooping cedar branches on top of the car too) until I was able to back it out. It got much easier after that and at that point the blower could be used to clean up the mess after.

I'm feeling it already, but in 6 to 8 hours I'm really going to pay for this (cytolytic enzymes released by damaged muscle tissue).

Yeah sounds like that was a lot of work. At least all that work probably kept you warm.

You could have used one of these

There would have been no room to maneuver that where my car was, but we need one of those to clear banks and drifts. Dad has been trying to get someone to come with a loader and move snow, but so far hasn't gotten any takers. (Probably the people he called were busy with contracts etc.)
