Sometimes I'll go to submit a post and it doesn't submit, it comes right back to the composition. It'll display a red error (in this style, anyway) above, "The submitted form is invalid. Try submitting again". No text is lost, and it goes through when clicking Submit again.
I think I figured it out, it's not really a bug just a generic error message that isn't very informative. It seems it's only when I've started composing a post, or have clicked in a form to activate it (e.g. Quick Reply) and come back to it some time later. So there's a timeout for form submission. Whatever it is, it's pretty long though.
If it did any harm (text loss), I wouldn't like it, but it just doesn't submit the form and you just have to Submit again.
Note that the same error might be presented for other reasons a form can't be submitted, but in this case it seems it's expiry.
P.S. It is 7200 seconds (and it can be changed or disabled if it's pissing anybody off) for form submission. It's a "Security" setting. Even if I do turn it off, there's still session expiry of 3600 seconds. That applies if sitting on a page, not to the "remember me" setting for when you come back, it doesn't make you log in again, only refresh a session.
So effectively, the timeout for an idle form would be 3600 seconds, and 7200 seconds for composition. In the first case, the act of failing to submit makes it a new session and all is well for clicking Submit again. Neither case causes text loss.
I'm considering defanging both of those, but it could result in more of a mess with some bot attack or facilitate other tomfoolery, so I'm on the fence unless it causes a real problem.
As always though, I want anyone here to HOLLER if you're not happy with something.
