Don't even buy it for Windows, because a lot of people are having problems with "Playstation PC SDK" software.
I managed to get it to run with "SteamDeck=1 %command%" which then opens a browser to register a Playstation Network account. After several puzzles to solve I finally got a PSN account created (wasn't accepting my solutions... I guess I'm too stupid. Not too stupid to get my money back though)
Then, while I got in the game menus for the first time, there's no mouse and I couldn't operate the menus. I'll be fucked if I'm playing a game like that with a controller.
So I took a refund. I'm royally pissed off, because it took about 4 hours to download. Steam downloads are crappy nowadays too,

Re: God of War Ragnarok - Do not buy
After all those hoops you had to go through too to get to that point.
Re: God of War Ragnarok - Do not buy
I was waiting, because I didn't really need a new game at this time, and also thinking that it would be better to wait for Proton fixes etc. but then I saw it was "Steam Deck Verified!" so I assumed that meant it would work perfectly for me too.
Indeed, the game itself probably works perfectly (and reports corroborate that), it's the shovelware. On Linux "SteamDeck=1" eliminates the need for that Playstation shitware, using a browser based sign in and simply tying the game to your Steam account. But mouse support is disabled in SteamDeck mode.
I found a lot of people on Windows having the problem with the Playstation PC SDK software, and being instructed to run the .msi installer for the client failed for them.

Re: God of War Ragnarok
I decided to revisit this, as it's a nice game.
They have removed the sign in requirement for this game, but not the requirement for the game client shitware. I learned about this fake "version.dll" available on github, specifically for this game to eliminate the need for the "Playstation PC SDK" rubbish, without having to play it in SteamDeck=1 mode. You drop the dll in the game directory and use a WINEDLLOVERRIDE var for it. The reason I didn't want to play it in Steam Deck mode is because there was no mouse support for the game.
Well, the nopssdk version.dll didn't work for me, it was still aborting because the Playstation SDK client wasn't there. This could be because my game is already tied to my Steam account from the first time I had it (we are to say No to the question of linking the game to our Steam accounts) or because the dll doesn't work for me (might need to be compiled) but in any case, it's moot now because I tried it with SteamDeck=1 and lo and behold, I can play it with keyboard and mouse now.
I have to use Valve's Proton for it though, the game doesn't launch (crash handler pops up) with any of my builds. Valve probably has some workaround that I don't. The game is working perfectly well on Ultra settings with Proton Experimental though.

Code: Select all
SteamDeck=1 %command%
Re: God of War Ragnarok
Since this is on Steam, it's easy to take screenshots. I've only got a few for now, but Svartalfheim looks pretty good.
