I never got into Zip drives when they were popular, money was limited at the time and by the time I was in a position to buy one they were on their way out. Before work today I was cleaning out a closet I hadn't touched in years and I came across an old internal modem box. I thought it was going to be just more junk, but it had some weight to it. Inside was a laptop Zip drive made by IBM. I couldn't figure out where it came from, I had no memory of coming into possession of one. But then I remembered the IBM Pentium 3 ThinkPad I got off of eBay in the early 2000's, as I recall the seller included an extra part with it, I think it was this Zip drive. I just set it aside and forgot about it. Wish I'd had it in the 90's.

I didn't know IBM made those, I thought they were only made by iomega. I had one, a parallel port zip drive. Worked well, and I had DOS drivers for it on a boot disk (to save installing drivers when using it for sneakernet to bring people files... just boot with the floppy and copy). I stole those drivers from a Norton Ghost rescue disk

Dumb ass things... disks were almost certain to get bad sectors (often exceeding spare sectors). Handy in those days though, you could fit a lot of files especially if you used something to span disks.

Yeah that confused me too when I found it. I think they made them under license.
