Re: Case Pictures
LOL yeah, that's cutting it close, those Fractal cases seem to be on the small side. I see you have one of those pain in the hemorrhoids PSU enclosures on that case too. I've seen some boohoo pictures of people that bought big humfucker Nvidia cards only to find they won't go in their cases. Looks n...

Re: EVGA - Great Customer Service
I've heard good things about them too regarding their customer service. However, that's exceptionally nice of them and especially in this day and age where companies don't care. You're kind of screwed if you lose modular PSU cables, testing luck with other cables with connectors that may fit can lea...

Re: Fractal Focus case and Motherboards
Well this one never got a chance to have the i/o shield snapped on, as the board was too narrow and the ioport area of the board was about 3/8 inch or so inside the case. There wasn't any other way to mount it, the board could only go in the mounting tray one way and all screws lined up. So, either ...

Re: Fractal Focus case and Motherboards
Hey, wait a minute now:
Did YOUR motherboard fit in the case properly? (might not be the exact, exact same Fractal Focus case design, even if the model and name are the same)and the other one currently has the same Intel based MSI board as you have (I'm now using that while working)

Re: Random Stuff, Seen on the net that made me LoL
Heh... someone had to think of that. I haven't seen a 7/11 store in a long time, I used to like them in cities I lived in. They had good little cheeseburgers in foil under heat lamps and stuff. Go there at 4 AM and that was good sustenance  That book cover looks awfully familiar, I think I've s...

Oooohh... fear the AI lol (not even close... what they call "AI" is just machine learning, it's not really intelligence and makes ridiculously bad decisions much of the time. I'm sick of them crowing about it) A lot happens in 40 years though, in 1984 I was a more primitive savage and we h...

Yeah I don't watch much of that shit either, but it caught my curiosity in the feed. (curious what he was going say, not that I was going to learn anything new... but I didn't expect this level of banality)

Re: The biggest bottleneck for your gaming PC
Now, not to completely ridicule this. The target audience, people who built their PC and don't know their low end graphics card is the reason they are getting 17 FPS, is bollocks. That's not his audience, just Cletus the PC builder types etc. HOWEVER, if his audience were people who buy Dell gaming ...

The biggest bottleneck for your gaming PC
Wait for it... it's not having a good enough graphics card  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6zGlk8y1Ks A big long video, with theatrics and graphs (and sponsors) to tell gamers that the biggest bottleneck to their gaming is not having a good enough graphics card. I was interested at first, but...

Re: Fractal Focus case and Motherboards
Yes, my red Fractal case has the alignment post.
Thanks for all that info, it actually needs not be Intel hardware. I wouldn't risk an AMD system for myself (very unforgiving, fussier on RAM etc.) but she's not any kind of a power user and we'd save a shit tonne of money.

Re: Need to use display compositor
It's enabled by default in XFCE, I had disabled it. It's a real compositor now I think, in my old XFCE 4.12.0 (on my LFS) I think it's just software rendering for some transparency effects and menu animations etc.

Fractal Focus case and Motherboards
Zema, what boards have you used in those Fractal Focus cases that fit perfectly (i/o shield mates up correctly with back of case) I'm thinking that my sister needs a new computer. She's got an old Nehalem Corei5 with 8 Gb of RAM running Windows 7 and she can't do much with it anymore for reasons obv...

Need to use display compositor
I've found myself wanting to use a compositor for desktop use now. I hate to do it, but ever since I changed the BIOS to enable UEFI and Resizable BAR, I've been having things like jerky window dragging (especially over top of the composited Firefox window... it's a compositor itself), jerky side sc...

Linux 6.8.6
https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel ... eLog-6.8.6
Oops, I noticed a bit too late to do it now (have to leave) but we've got a new kernel. There's some stuff in there (e.g. amdgpu) that should be had.

You can just write that in, the engine takes any arbitrary values. Unlike Quake engine, you don't have to unlock it with another setting (can't remember but it's -1) In UT2004.ini [WinDrv.WindowsClient] WindowedViewportX=640 WindowedViewportY=480 FullscreenViewportX=1920 FullscreenViewportY=1080 (On...

I had power outage all night and after about 6 hours, my Internet went out (They have some sort of switches in boxes around neighbourhoods that have backup batteries... seems to be getting weaker here. Re: Arch Linux 2024
I got around to getting my Trinity stuff working today. I had already copied it over (and the configs from grogan) but just had to set some environment variables and ldconfig paths (I have it in a non system location, /opt/trinity and /opt/tqt3 for its qt). It's one of those things where every time ...

Re: Unreal Tournament 2004 - 20 Years Old
Actually wrong, the audio does work in Arch. It must work just fine through alsa emulation. I transferred my ut2004 game directory (already self contained with libraries in its System directory) and /home/grogan/.ut2004 (which is of the utmost importance not so much because of any game data (the map...

Re: Unreal Tournament 2004 - 20 Years Old
I haven't copied that over, I'll bet it still works  (audio might not work on Arch, I've never tried it there. My Bollux is a pure Alsa system, and that's where I'd play this game anyway) I still have the original directory from 2004, with icculus' patches with 64 bit build. I've dropped in com...

I don't think it would have been the mesa point release that helped. a/upower-1.90.4-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded. Maybe that. It falls inline with constant polling causing problems. It's dbus machinery for polling power stats and battery sensors and something in your DE could be using the daemon. I actua...

Don't try another card unless it's happening again, but that's almost current stable (24.0.5 is) It could also be an issue with your display compositor. Sync issues can have severe consequences with video. Most of the time it's not a fault for you, just the video playback freezes if I finally unders...

Re: Crash
OK, now... the reason your message is different (and possibly more hurty) than mine. Well, two reasons actually, but related here. Modern Intel CPUs issue a debug exception trap that assists this split_lock_detection. It's not using that for you, as it's using the #AC method rather than #DB. They ar...
