Re: Bazzite

Fedora based... that will be all containered up. You can't even build a native Wine anymore on Fedora without using wow64 (which isn't quite there yet for all 32 bit games... I've tried it twice myself for my system wine and I doubt it's time yet to try it again) Tk-Glitch comitted on Mar 5 CI: Swit...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs

Yes, I saw Jay talking about such sites in some of his videos, but I discounted it because it takes a lot for me to trust. For my VM I don't care (I'll handle it) but I'd only use a legit key for somebody else. I'd actually buy two keys at a decent price, I'd prefer to have a legit one myself too. I...

Re: Arch Linux 2024

Well, Slackware gets a pass for that stuff. 1) It's not piggybacking on Arch. Manjaro doesn't actually DO a lot, but build Arch packages. They have some of their own front ends (e.g. that MHWD) and do build some packages somewhat differently, but most of it is Arch. Their installer is just that Cala...

Re: Arch Linux 2024

I just tried that "archinstall" script that's in the ISO's now. It's pretty bad... anything other than just letting it take the disk "best guess partitioning layout" or some such wording, fails with a bunch of python errors, it doesn't look like it actually created the second par...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs

It lets me enable it and nothing complains, but I don't really have any 3D acceleration in Windows 11 (just decent 2D with that driver). I can't run WebGL, it says it's unsupported. Curiously, dxdiag shows that I have d3d acceleration, but I've seen that before when it's bollocks. On the Linux guest...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs

Manjaro sure is a load of fucking clownery. The installer crashes when I select Manual Partitioning in EFI mode (doesn't crash in BIOS mode) Automatic partitioning works, but it doesn't create a swap partition. I have no swap, 0 bytes available. (WHAT?!?) You still need swap for memory management, i...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs

Bloody Hell, this GUI is idiotic. I've been chasing my tail trying to get 3D acceleration to work (virgl, with virtio). I'm enabling it for the Virtio graphics adapter and it's just failing when I go to "Begin Installation" even for a Linux distro. The reason is, enabling it there doesn't ...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs

I thought I might just buy a Windows 11 Home Edition license seeing as we're going to need one for my sister anyway in the somewhat near future. (and retail should be able to activate again) However, the futhermuckers want $189 CDN for it, just for Home Edition  They sure want a lot of money fo...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs

Windows needs to be activated to even get at the "Personalization" settings now. All it will let you do is choose one of the few preset themes. OK, Microsoft, you win (lose, actually). I'll get a copy "activated". I wanted to use Home Edition for this, to be on the same page with...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs

Yes, I can use the virtio graphics adapter, but it won't let me enable 3D acceleration. That's the thing that's only for Linux guests, the virgl gallium driver (and no, I wouldn't need to enable that in the host's mesa) So I might as well go back to QXL for Windows, it's probably better at this time...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs

I finally got a Windows 11 install off the ground, I'm at the first configuration screens after the install, now. These GUIs can be a real disconnect, with the silly non-obvious things they make you do. Like you have to click a little tiny icon on the lower left to actually "activate" this...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs

Everything Microsoft does, they do with a big bag of dicks in their mouth. I got that virt-manager shit all set up, and go through the wizardy steps, get to choosing my ISO and... the fucking download isn't done yet, it slowed down and it's still got about half an hour to go. It's only a 6 Gb file a...

Re: Welcome Jan!

Same, I liked Big Mac goop when I was a kid, but after the goop aversion, it's disgusting. I like a Big Mac without sauce, but it's a burn these days. Better to get the little double cheeseburgers, "mcdoubles", they are cheap.

Big Mac sauce is like thousand island dressing. Blech!

I actually did like mayonnaise at one time, on certain things. Never on a burger (that's just disgusting) but I used to have it on subs and a bit with tuna sandwiches. HOWEVER, there were only two people in this world that could make me a tuna sandwich. My mother and my grandmother. They did it just...

Asking AI to Create all countries as Super Villains

Now this is probably the best one of these "whatever" represented by demons, AI generated image sets I've seen yet. It takes into account some of the geography and culture for some of them. Some are a bit stereotypical, others are way off the mark completely and I think "why?" bu...

Re: Far Cry 6

Am I ever glad to be back in my game! What happened was that I simply have those DLC mission weapons in my inventory now as Unique weapons. It let me change them out. Re: Far Cry 6

Hah! I can thank this game's shitty (and evidently buggy) save system for getting me out of that DLC. There's only one running save (multiple slots for new games), and I could see no way out of it. So I resigned myself tonight to just playing it, and I was spawned outside the compound with the bunke...

Re: Proton and Wine

When the Ubisoft client updates, it works, but it is re-launched by the updater and seems to launch out of context. It prompts for an Ubisoft login and if you give it, it opens up the full Ubisoft client. Instead, if a login prompt comes up, just kill it (click the x will suffice) and wait until it ...

Yeah, I prefer to just use the command line qemu client but it's going to need an upgrade anyway (I don't have the helper utilities for it, I know that for sure. Mine predates that shit) I might just install Arch packages for that and use it here, this way I'll have that virt-manager shit too. I don...

Re: Full Screen Ads For Windows 11

Well... Windows 11 is like Windows 10, only with features and functionality removed, and arbitrary hardware requirements. Why would anybody want it other than because it's the latest version of Windows that might come with a new computer?

That's pretty obnoxious of them.

So it looks like I can emulate a TPM 2.0 with KVM. Something like: -tpm backend.type=emulator,backend.version=2.0,model=tpm-tis My guess is I'll need a newer qemu to be able to pass that to kvm. I was thinking it would be just using the host TPM through the host OS interfaces like an application wou...

Re: Twitter

Ahh, maybe not then. I'm going to guess the algorithm alerts when it doesn't match the geographical area the account is used from. It probably flags it as suspicious activity. So if you go on vacation somewhere and use the account, you're going to have to jump through verification hoops etc.
